Insider's Report Vol. 10 No. 13
As State Representative of District 25, my greatest priority is to be responsive to those who entrust me to represent them at our State Capitol. Two of my constituents have asked me to address a situation that resulted in the loss of life and, in response, I have filed House Bill 1238 to ensure that our state laws protect the safety of my constituents and all Texas citizens.
In working with Sarah and Joe Roth, whose mother was killed in a tragic accident in a construction area on SH 288, I authored HB 1238 to lower the speed limit in a construction zone by either 20 miles per hour below the normal speed limit, or by 30 percent below the normal speed limit, whichever is less. My bill would also require that concrete barriers be placed in construction areas of counterflow traffic.
I am grateful to the Roth family of Clute for bringing this important issue to my attention after enduring such a painful loss. It is my hope that this legislation can turn a tragedy into something positive by preventing further accidents and saving lives.
