Insider's Report Vol. 10 No. 29
Texans will once again have the opportunity to save energy, water, and money over the Memorial Day weekend. As a result of legislation I helped pass in 2007 and in 2015, certain Energy Star approved items, as well as certain Water-Efficient Products, will be exempt from sales tax Saturday, May 28, through Monday, May 30.
The products qualifying for the exemption are:
•air conditioners priced under $6,000
•incandescent and fluorescent light bulbs
•refrigerators priced under $2,000
•any product displaying the "WaterSense" label or logo
•any items used or planted for conserving or retaining groundwater, recharging water tablets, or decreasing ambient air temperature to limit water evaporation (see websites below for specific examples and exclusions)
Qualifying energy saving products listed above must display the ENERGY STAR logo on the appliance, the packaging or the Energy Guide label.
The Texas Comptroller estimates shoppers will save an estimated $8.7 million in state and local sales tax during the Memorial Day Weekend Sales tax holiday. This is also a great opportunity to support your LOCAL businesses!
