Sales Tax Holiday Provides Relief to Texas Families

Insider's Report Vol. 7, No. 28

Eligible items expanded to include school supplies

The upcoming sales tax holiday will bring much-needed relief to Texans as we face the rising costs of living and a slow national economy.  As a result of legislation that I supported in 1999, the annual sales tax holiday will take place this weekend, August 21-23, 2009.

During the tax holiday weekend, the majority of children's and adults' clothes and shoes under $100 are exempt from sales tax.  Backpacks and school supplies have also been added to the list of tax exempt items as a result of legislation that I helped pass during the 2007 and 2009 legislative sessions.  To see a full list of eligible items, please visit:  http://www.cpa.state.tx.us/taxinfo/taxpubs/tx98_490/tx98_490.html

I encourage you to take advantage of this great opportunity to save your hard-earned money while also supporting our local businesses when making your "Back to School" purchases.
