TDI warns consumers about healthcare insurance scams

Insider's Report Vol. 7, No. 37

In the wake of the recently-enacted federal healthcare legislation, the Texas Department of Insurance has witnessed related fraudulent activity and insurance scams, particularly targeting the elderly.  Fake insurance agents and sales representatives who claim to be with the federal government are going door-to-door trying to sell phony insurance policies.  I wanted to make you aware of these unscrupulous activities and ask that you also share this information with the most likely targets of these high-pressure scam tactics.

The following link is to a press release issued by the Texas Department of Insurance alerting consumers to these activities and also providing some useful tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of an insurance scam.  It contains helpful contact information for consumers to verify that an agent is licensed and also to report fraudulent activity.
