Insider's Report Vol. 7, No. 41
With a national economy that is still in recovery, hard-working Texans must continue to find ways to stretch every dollar and "Back to School" expenses are no exception. As a result of legislation I supported in 1999, the annual sales tax holiday will take place this year on August 20-22, 2010.
During the tax holiday weekend, the majority of children's and adults' clothes and shoes under $100 are exempt from sales tax. Backpacks and school supplies have also been added to the list of tax exempt items as a result of legislation that I helped pass during the 2007 and 2009 legislative sessions. To see a full list of eligible items, please visit the Comptroller's website.
I encourage you to take advantage of this great opportunity to save money while also supporting our local businesses when making your "Back to School" purchases.
